In celebration of Bitcoin pizza 🍕 day, order a pizza! This is a cultural moment in the Crypto community when they collectively remember Laszlo Hanyecz, a Florida man who paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas in 2009. Today, that would have been valued at around 370 - 600 million BTC! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 This could very well be the most expensive pizza on the planet.
This year’s Bitcoin Pizza Day was one of the largest celebrations to date, with thousands of FREE pizzas given out to the crypto community. Rare Pizza DOA has purchased about a half-million dollars worth of pizza. The online group started organizing “The Worlds Biggest Pizza Party” back in March on Clubhouse, according to my iPhone note date. The collective creatively architected a multi-dimensional experience that consisted of various IRL and LIVE experiences in the metaverse, from Twitch, Crypto Voxels, Live Google Sheet documents, and massive social rooms on Clubhouse and Discord. The means to pull off such an amazing activation actually was generated from PIZZA NFTs that were minted and sold on Foundation for ETH, which is now worth thousands. Members of Pizza DOA (Snax, Amber, Katrina, Florian, Taylan, Dave, Keno, Deno, Jennifer Moyer & definitely dozens more) programmed this amazing experience and I’m beyond blown away. Your favorite fiat agency could never!
To get a FREE pizza: Crypto enthusiasts could easily log into rarepizza.com and navigate to the map functionality and find the nearest pizza shop. Most people called and went to pick up the pies! I was tickled to go on my own pizza scavenger hunt in South Florida. The pizza shop was called Ballin Pizza Miami’s Best Kept Secret, which also happened to be a low-key strip club called Bare Necessity. The representative was super cool and told me he had given out over 60+ pizzas over the course of that day. The most pizza he sold all year. “They gave me the money weeks ago. All you had to do was sign up,” the representative explained to me. I was assuming he was referring to Pizza DOA, who gave him the money to participate. Apparently, they were paying people in fiat, ETH, and BTC, whichever currency the pizza makers’ preferred! This was by far the weirdest activity I did in a while and tickled me because the Internet wins again!!!
Many pizza lovers paid it forward by donating pies to local homeless shelters, and other community organizations. Even Daniel vd Ghinste on Twitter had a beautiful pizza party in Togo, West Africa! Explore #RarePizzaDay on Twitter to experience all the joy! In total, FREE pizza was given out on all SEVEN continents! From Alaska to the mainland in China, you can connect with the PizzaDoa community on Discord! For US customers, the Slice App also participated in the celebration by giving out $20 off codes, valid until 11:59 PM EST on May 22.
Shoutout to PizzaDOA for spreading world collaboration, one pizza pie at a time!
